Become a Sunset Zoo Adult Volunteer!

The Sunset Zoological Park Education Department would like you to become part of our volunteer family by joining the Docent program. This program is great for anyone who has a sincere interest in animals and conservation.  You will learn about zoo history, animal diets, individual animals at the zoo, how the zoo acquires animals, and much more.

Docents, zoo education volunteers, are able to assist with tours, classes, animal watches, animal demonstrations, special events, and much more.  As a zoo volunteer you are able to choose which activities you would like to participate in.  Docents are required to volunteer minimal hours to the zoo each year.Orientation:  We will have an orientation session on Tuesday, September 13 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM or Sunday, September 18 from 3:30-4:30 PM in the Sunset Zoo Education Building.  You may join this program at the end of each orientation.
Fee: Cost of the training is $25.00. Training fee includes a volunteer manual with animal descriptions and information.

This program is designed for students ages 14 through 17 years of age.  Students must have a sincere interest in learning about animals and working for a conservation organization.  After successfully completing this training program, students must volunteer a minimum of 75 hours at the zoo before they can request to shadow in an animal area.  Please Note:  Successful completion of the training program does not guarantee student participation in an animal area.

Fee:  $65.00-training fee includes a manual with animal descriptions and information as well as uniform.
